Hi everyone. If you haven’t noticed, there are several badly made, out of tune bamboo flutes out there on the scene today, and I feel it has given bamboo flutes a bad name or “amateur” status in many peoples perspective. I’ve made flutes for many very satisfied professional players, and beginners alike. I’d like to state right off the bat that these flutes are very well tuned (A=440 Hz) , they get about 2 and 1/2 octaves or more, and have a very clear tone making them easier to play. I love the flute and play many types of folk and traditional music. I hope my passion for the flute shows in my work. Thanks!
This is hopefully where in the future you’ll come to get a bit of info. and updates on the flutes I make, how to play simple system flutes, some cool flute links, history of the flute, recordings, etc.
Not all bamboo is equal. I choose and harvest a specific type, only selecting certain pieces out of hard to find stands for what I want.
If you are a beginner and looking to get into folk flute styles such as Celtic, Middle Eastern, South American, etc… or play tinwhistle and want to learn flute, (but can’t yet get those pennies together for that $2000 handmade “Irish” flute you’re lusting after) this is a great place to start. Likewise, if you are a professional that is looking to expand your collection of keys or repertoire, and need a flute that plays well in tune with other instruments, please contact me.
If you have any questions about the availability of a certain key or style, just email me at: billymiller(at)swva(dot)net . Thanks!
